features and benefits of Sonatherm acoustic thermal insulation
- Suitable for thermal acoustic sound insulation. Reconstruction of a building may necessitate the removal of the SonaSpray and mineral wool slabs components of Sonatherm. The SonaSpray component can be recycled or disposed of as a non-special waste to landfill.
- Sonatherm acoustic thermal insulation is Building Regulations (E&W) Approved Document E compliant.
- Thermal insulation with reverberation noise reduction.
- Spray applied, one coat, decorative, thermal insulation finish with foil-faced mineral wool slabs substrate.
- Seamless monolithic ceiling.

technical specifications
- Acoustic thermal insulation suitable for application to most surfaces or constructions and is suitable for basement car parks, cantilever buildings and balconies.
- The acoustic thermal insulation system can also be used for the soffits of walkways, underpasses and balconies.
- In any area where it is protected from direct rain.
Acoustic thermal insulation spray application by Oscar Acoustics trained in-house teams. Mineral wool boards installed by others.
*Applies for the SonaSpray element only*
B-s1,d0 & Class 0 to BS476 – significantly betters the requirements of the new Approved Document B providing little to no smoke and absolutely no droplets, assisting in the safe escape of occupants.
Various decorative and seamless sprayed coating.
Made-to-measure.
Excellent acoustics achieved without design compromise.
Cellulose fibres, fully recycled, low embodied energy, low C02. Can effectively lower the carbon footprint of a building project by sequestering rich stores of carbon for the life of the structure or application.
*Applies for the SonaSpray element only*

Local repairs of small areas are performed by hand. A wall or a ceiling can be entirely over sprayed in the same or a different colour. It is also possible to spray with a water based paint – please contact our Oscar Acoustics technical department for further details.
Dust can be removed by blowing with an air pressure gun or by vacuuming with a soft brush attachment.

There is a choice of finish for the sprayed-on Sonatherm layer:
- SonaSpray K-13 standard coarse
- SonaSpray K-13 special medium
- SonaSpray fc medium / fine
SonaSpray K-13 special is available as standard in colours: Light grey, beige, off white and black (blues and greens often available as standard).
Sonaspray fc is available in white as standard.
Almost any colour is possible if the size of the project warrants this option.
The adhesive used with SonaSpray K-13 Special acoustic ceiling and wall finish provides a strong, durable and resilient bond. When fully cured, surface strength of old plaster will typically improve.
Recessed services e.g. spot lighting will require a halo spacer to match the material depth. Oscar Acoustics manufacture and install stainless steel halo spacers (drawing available) to the same size as the hole cut out. Stop beads may be required around openings which again we can supply and install. Specially designed access hatches are also available through Profab, enabling the SonaSpray to continue across the hatch door. Problems can arrise from using other hatches. These items are at extra cost and are to be purchsed direct from the Profab. Please contact Oscar Acoustics for details and item code. Surface mounted fittings e.g. hanging/pendant lights will require pattresses to match the material depth. Please contact Oscar Acoustics for further advice.
Please Note: 90% of flangeless fittings do not work properly with any acoustic finish. If you are specifying a flangeless fitting, please contact Oscar Acoustics for advice.
SonaSpray K-13 Special acoustic ceiling and wall finish can be quickly and effectively applied to any prepared surface and construction configuration where noise reverberation is a problem. This allows minimum working down time in existing structures with abilities to meet critical deadlines in new construction. SonaSpray K-13 Special has a medium surface texture and is suited to reducing noise reverberation in large rooms and halls. When applying to walls, position acoustic finishes above head height. For lower walls or areas of high impact, see EchoCheck acoustic blocks.
Other SonaSpray products offer a finer surface texture.
Please note that it is important not to use moisture resistant plasterboard as this can cause staining of wet applied products. Oil based stain barrier paints can be used to prevent this. Please consult Oscar Acoustics for more information.
A minimum of 12.5mm thick plasterboard, installed to British Gypsum specification should be used.
SonaSpray K-13 Special acoustic ceiling and wall finish can be over-painted (consult Oscar Acoustics technical department before painting as noise reverberation controlling properties can be significantly reduced if applied incorrectly), or applied with additional coats of SonaSpray. Small areas of damage can be repaired by hand.
If SonaSpray K-13 Special acoustic ceiling and wall finish is disturbed or damaged so that fibre is released into the atmosphere, the resulting contamination is harmless. Maintenance work can be undertaken while the building is occupied. Please refer to COSHH data for detailed product analysis.

other acoustic thermal insulation applications
Sonatherm thermal acoustic insulation can also be used for the soffits of walkways, underpasses and balconies. In any area where it is protected from direct rain, architects can employ the insulating and acoustic properties of Sonatherm to the full.
